This past Saturday, the Orange and Blue fell to Army 20-11 at Michie Stadium. Despite the loss, the Bison were one goal short of tying the most goals scored against the nation’s top-ranked defense. Army ultimately prevailed, scoring 20 goals on 44 total shots on goal.
The first half of the game proved a strong start for Army who was able to score four of their first five shots on goal, despite sophomore Colin McLoyʼs faceoff win. The Black Knights kicked off the game with a 4-0 lead.
However, by the end of the first period, Bucknell battled back and tied up the score 4-4. Owen Kovacs ʼ26 started the run, putting Bucknell on the board at the 5:49 mark. Quickly after, Connor Davis ʼ25 scored with a strong shot from the left side thanks to an assist from Jack Dudas ʼ25. Then, Will Hopkins ʼ26 managed a crease roll shot to make the score 4-3. Finally, after an Army shot missed and hit the side of the goal, Peter Grandolfo ʼ27 snatched the rebound and beat the buzzer to tally the score to 4-4.
Entering into the second period, Army once again led scoring with three quick goals. The Bison didn’t back down though, and responded with two goals in just 15 seconds from Anthony Panetti ’28 and Michael Meyer ʼ26 totaling the score to 7-6.
Once again, Army had another rush of goals scored before Meyer was able to manage a goal, bringing the score to 11-7. After a quick halftime break, Army scored three quick goals in the first four minutes and outscored the Bison in the period 7-2 pushing the Army lead to 18-9.
Davis’ third-quarter goal was his 40th of the season. He now joins alum Justin Zackey ʼ94 as the only other Bison to have two 40-goal seasons. Davis’ run is only the eighth 40-goal campaign in team history. Davis is also the first Bison Men’s Lacrosse player to have three seasons of at least 38 goals.
The Bison’s current record is now 5-8 overall and 2-5 in the Patriot League. Army outshot Bucknell 44-41 and led 36-24 in ground balls. The Bison used four goalies throughout the game totaling 14 saves. Additionally, three Army goalies had 12 total saves.
