Bison Men’s Lacrosse faced Navy in a heated matchup last week. They also celebrated their seniors, Connor Davis, Jack Dudas, Ben Bonafede, Cam Doolan, George Talarico, Grant Malas and Ryan Caione.
From the start, the Midshipmen took control of the game by scoring two quick goals. They managed to score seven goals in the first quarter alone, jumping ahead by four as the Bison only had three goals on the board.
The Orange and Blue trailed most of the game, but the third quarter proved to be the turning point of the game. Down 11-6 with a little over four minutes in the third, Anthony Panetti ʼ28 snagged the first tally, followed by Owen Kovacs ʼ26 who was fed on a cut by teammate Sean Kerwick ʼ28. As time wound down, Panetti ripped a shot on goal that was deflected by the opposing goalie. Peter Grandolfo ʼ27 rebounded and unleashed a diving shot at the buzzer. The Bison were within two heading into the final quarter.
The comeback continued for the Bison early into the fourth quarter. Dudas found Luke Brunner ʼ27 for a left-handed goal. Grandolfo scooped up a Navy turnover behind the goal and converted for the tying goal.
On the next faceoff, the Orange and Blue came out with the ball but were not able to find the back of the net. Navy took advantage of the Bison’s struggle to clear the ball on the other end and scored their 12th goal with nine minutes left in play.
Unlucky turnovers on both ends proved costly for the Bison. The Midshipmen were able to score off two turnovers. The Orange and Blue were unable to catch up and the game would end 14-11. Goalie Luke Renaud ʼ26 saved 12 shots.
This marks the end of the Bison Men’s Lacrosse season, wrapping up with a 5-9 overall record and 2-6 in the league.
Davis ended his collegiate career as the all-time leading scorer with 150 goals, 42 this season. Michael Meyer ʼ26 led the team with 57 points, 26 goals and 31 assists this season.
