Young Love: LinkedIn and hooked up
February 23, 2017
After seeing Max, an old alumni crush, back on campus for a career fair, Eliza Smith ’17 decided it was time to make her move. She’d had a crush on this man since she was a first-year and he was a senior.
Not only had he retained his good looks, but he now had a great job at a prestigious engineering firm. For the duration of the career fair, Eliza pretended to be an engineering major just to stay at Max’s booth and chat, despite the fact that she was double majoring in English and psychology.
Friending the 25-year-old on Facebook seemed to re-assert the fact that Eliza was still in college. She needed to make a move that said “I’m interested” while at the same time saying “I’m professional.”
Then it dawned on her; she would add him to her LinkedIn network, where he would see her impressive list of skills with glowing endorsements and “self-starter abilities,” along with a stunning yet professional headshot. Taking a deep breath, Eliza thought to herself, “Relax, this is just a networking opportunity.”
Several minutes after adding him to her elite network, she had a message notification on LinkedIn. Apparently Max was not above LinkedIn love either.
