Athlete of the Week: Ashley Sofilkanich ‘27

Basketball forward Ashley Sofilkanich ’27 has been named the Athlete of the Week. The dominant post player averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks, with only four total turnovers in Bucknell’s two wins this week over American and Boston University.

Sofilkanich was a key down the stretch in the Bison’s first win of the week, at home vs. American. The big’s ability to control the paint on the defensive end provides a huge boost to the Bison’s already elite defense. Despite not tearing it up in the scoring column, she snagged six offensive rebounds, helping lead her team to a 22-14 advantage in the paint.

Against Boston, she propelled Bucknell to a 71-60 win behind 21 points on 9-14 shooting. The first-year did a phenomenal job defending the interior in this one as well, helping to hold BU to only 26 points in the paint.

“My mentality going into games is just to give 110% and leave it all out on the floor,” Sofilkanich said. “Even when I am playing against a great opponent, I just have to believe that I can outplay them. I think having confidence in yourself and your abilities is a player’s greatest strength.”
