On Sunday, April 21, Women’s Rowing traveled to Fairfax Station, VA to compete in the George Mason Invitational. The Bison had outstanding performances on race day, as the Bison Second Varsity Eight won its Grand Final, while the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four both finished second.
The Bucknell 2V8+ team, under the direction of coxswain Hattie Hopper ’26 and stroked by Haley Beardsley ’24, finished second to George Washington in the morning heat, but in the afternoon cut off 18 seconds from their prelim time, to finish in first place by four seconds. Bucknell finished 6:55.0, followed by GW, Delaware, West Virginia, Duquesne and Villanova.
Regarding the Bucknell 1V8+ boat, led by coxswain Juliette Gaggini ’24, the team finished third in the morning heat with the fifth fastest qualifying time. In the Grand Final, the Bison finished 6:58.9 in a dead heat with Saint Joseph’s for the silver medal.
The Bucknell V4 team also had a great day of competition, boasting the fastest time in the qualifying stage at 7:49.3. Later that day in the Grand Final, the team finished in second place, right behind Saint Joseph’s but well before third place, George Washington.
Bucknell will return home to compete on the Susquehanna River twice this weekend. On Saturday the Bison will face off against Duquesne and on Sunday the Bison compete versus UConn.
