Men’s and Women’s Track and Field split time this weekend between Penn State’s National Open and the 26th Annual Bison Open and Multi at home. The Bison picked up six event wins and added 5 new top ten marks to the record books.
On Friday, the team of Kerry O’Day ’28, Alexandra Lea ’28, Katie Moncavage ’28 and Shaelan McNally ’28 placed first overall in the Distance Medley Relay at home in 11:58.25, the fastest mark in the Patriot League this season, after flat track conversions. Lea continued her dominance on Friday, placing 1st overall in the 200 meters in 25.33 seconds later in the night. Over in State College, Caryn Rippey ’26 put down a time of 4:55.41 in the mile, a top ten mark in the Patriot League while Lauren Joyce ’26 ran 18:29.99 over 5000 meters for 14th place, good for sixth fastest in the PL this year.
On Saturday, Prizila Negrete ’27 unleashed a throw of 56-5.75 feet in the weight throw to place 1st overall at home and place herself in a tie for 5th all-time among all Bison. In the 800 meters, Madeline Sipe ’28 and Katrina Torelli ’27 went 1-2, running 2:19.41 and 2:20.69 respectively. At Penn State, Margaret McLoughlin ’25 ran 10:08.38 over 3000 meters, placing her top twenty among Patriot League runners this season.
On the men’s side, Luke Petryna ’28 ran 22.41 in the 200 meters, narrowly picking up the gold. Gabriel Pecaitis ’28 led a sweep of the top three in the pole vault with Michael Chernova ’27 and Lucas Williams ’27 following behind him. The three cleared marks of 15-09, 14-07.25 and 14-07.25 respectively. Over at Penn State, the duo of Jayson Harmer ’26 and Carter Paul ’27 each posted top-twenty-five marks in the PL, running 4:13.84 and 4:14.90, respectively. For Paul, the time is an improvement of over five seconds from his previous best, set in January of last year. In the 5000 meters, Mason Siebenhaar ’26 and Max Crockett ’25 each went under 15 minutes, posting marks of 14:57.43 and 14:59.81 for 8th and 9th overall respectively.
On Saturday at home, Braiden Pulver ’28 and Robert Lerner ’26 placed first and second in the shot put, throwing 50-04 and 48-09.50 respectively. In the mile, alumni Alexander Simpson ’24 was victorious over Ethan Pratt-Perez ’28, running 4:19.18 ahead of Pratt-Perez’s 4:20.02. Back in State College, Henry Didden ’26 and Harry Marson ’25 took on the 3000 meters, running 8:27.99 and 8:29.00, good for 7th and 9th overall. In the 1000 meters, Hayden Singer ’27 blazed a 2:26.59, the 13th fastest time in the PL so far. The duo of Wade Shomper ’26 and Braden Stryker ’25 closed out the weekend with 4th and 8th place finishes in the shot put. Shomper, the school record holder, threw 56-2 feet while Stryker’s 54-1 slotted him into 9th all-time in the Orange and Blue record books.
The Bison continue their season on Saturday, Feb. 8th where they will travel to the Ott Center in Philadelphia to take on the Penn Classic.
