The Orange and Blue Women’s Rowing team traveled out to Leonia, N.J., this past Saturday for their second race of the spring season. The Bison raced three varsity eights, posting first, second and fourth-place finishes.
The Varsity Eight posted a time of 6:56:578 to take second behind Boston College in their heat. However, the team ultimately finished fourth, falling behind Rhode Island and Saint Joseph’s. Hattie Hopper ’26 guided the boat as coxswain, one of the few upperclassmen in a boat of half first years.
Katie Lash ’26 coxswained for the Second Varsity Eight crew, who were carrying momentum from their fourth-place finish from the week prior at the Doc Hosea Invitational. Even though they started their morning heat in third, they finished their race runners-up to Rhode Island, staying ahead of George Washington and Boston College.
The Third Varsity Eight finished the best of the three teams, with Victoria Miller-Tuchon ’26 in the stroke seat and Jewell Jacobs ’28 and Caroline Wieland ’27 sharing the coxswain job. They raced a time of 7:05.433 in the morning heats, then came back to beat teams Boston College, Massachusetts and Connecticut to take first place by just under four seconds.
The Bison have three more race events before the Patriot League Championships. They will travel to the Cooper River Complex in Cherry Hill, N.J. for the Knecht Cup this Saturday.
