Men’s and Women’s Track and Field competed at three meets last week, where they combined for six wins. On Thursday and Friday, select throwers competed at the 129th Penn Relays. Also on Friday, some Bison competed at Bloomsburg’s Maroon and Gold Invite. Finally, on Saturday, the Orange and Blue took on Saint Francis’ Red Flash Open.
At Penn Relays, Wade Shomper ’26 had a standout performance in the shot put, tossing a mark of 53-10.5 feet for sixth place in a field that contained some of the best on the East Coast. Braden Stryker ’25 was not far behind him, throwing 52-05.25 for 10th. Stryker also found success in the discus throw, where he threw 159-09 feet for ninth place.
Later, on Friday night, Mason Siebenhaar ’26 won the 5000 meters in Bloomsburg, running 14:52.69, over 10 seconds ahead of the second place athlete. David Carillo ’28, Peter Sorensen ’25 and Alexander Goonewardene ’28 finished behind him, helping the Bison sweep the top four spots in the event. Bradley Weldon ’27 helped the Orange and Blue find the top spot in the 5000 meters as well, running 17:56.26 for the win, a 24-second victory. Lauren Joyce ’26 found second place, running 18:20.85. In the pole vault, Michael Chernova ’27 cleared 14-05.25 feet for first place, while Lucas Williams ’27 cleared the same height, but with more attempts, for second place. Elizabeth Bryant ’26 completed the pole vault sweep for the Bison, clearing 12-05.5 feet for a dominating victory.
On Saturday, Grant Kern ’26 started off the meet strong for the Orange and Blue, claiming victory in the 3000-meter steeplechase, running 9:49.1 for the win, almost 25 seconds ahead of second place. In the 800 meters, Zachary Jelinek ’26 finished third, running 1:55.05, while Carter Paul ’27 and Carter Boullard ’27 were right behind him in fourth and fifth, respectively, running 1:55.42 and 1:56.85. Clara Knab ’28 found similar success in the 800 meters, running 2:17.72 for second while Katrina Torelli ’27 and Isabella Johns ’27 ran 2:18.14 and 2:18.17 for third and fourth, respectively. In the 1500 meters, Lucas Ward ’27 placed first in the 1500 meters, running 4:00.82. Luis Colmenares-Bittar ’28 finished second in the 400-meter hurdles, running 55.79 seconds.
The Bison begin to reach the end of their season as they take on the Patriot League Outdoor Championships in Worcester, Mass., at Holy Cross on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3.
