Bucknell Women’s Golf carried its hot streak to the Nittany Lion Invitational at Penn State earlier this week, Sept. 21-22. Sophia Bardunias ’28 led the team with a seventh-place finish, winning the Bison their third consecutive Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week honors, previously awarded to Joelle Johnson ’29 and Katherine Vice ’27. The Bison finished ninth out of sixteen teams on the course, posting their best 54-hole score at Penn State in program history.
The Orange and Blue played two rounds on Sunday. Bardunias led the team with a one-under par score, putting the Bison in ninth place overall early in the competition. She shot a 70 (-2) in the first round and 73 (+1) in the second, tying her for fifth place.
Nicole Yun ’27 sat in 15th individually after a 73 and 74 (+2) and Katrina von Behren ’28 shot 77 (+5) in the first round and was sitting 56th. Johnson matched Bardunias’ second-round score with a 73. The Bison as a team posted a 308 after the first round and 302 in the second.
On Monday, the Orange and Blue rallied again to finish the tournament. The Bison finished with a 912 (308-302-302) for the program’s best 54-hole finish in history. Bardunias and Johnson both posted an under-par round. With her under-par 70 from the first day, Bardunias became the sixth Bison ever to earn a two-under finish in a single round. This feat helped her finish in a three-way tie for seventh. Johnson pulled a one-under 71 in her final round. After starting with a rough 84 in the first round, she came back to jump 19 spots to claim 39th in the tournament. Yun took 23rd after posting a 76 on the final day. Von Behren took 60th with a 77-79-79 and Vice and Lila Smith ’27 tied for 73rd, going 22-over par for the competition.
The Bison will come back for their next tournament at Navy for their fall invitational on Oct. 4-5.
