Football looked to improve to 3-1 at home this past Saturday against Richmond in a big-time conference matchup against the Spiders. In an offensive bout, the Bison rallied late in the fourth quarter to take down Richmond 33-28 and improve to 4-2 on the season.
It didn’t take long for the scoring to get going, as the Orange and Blue and Richmond would find the end zone a combined three times in the first quarter. After finding itself in a 7-0 deficit, the Bison answered right back via a nine-play, 72-yard drive that ended with a Michael Cadden ’28 rushing touchdown. The Spiders scored once more to take a 14-7 lead heading into the second quarter of action.
Again, the Orange and Blue answered right back at the beginning of the second quarter. Logan Bush ’28 ran it in from 11 yards out for his first touchdown of the season, knotting the tally at 14 apiece.
Richmond would again find the pylon to go up 21-14 before the Bison slowed its momentum down. A 31-yard field goal by Matt Schearer ’26 to end the half with the score 21-17 heading into halftime.
The Bison came out of the locker room hot, scoring a touchdown right away to take a 24-21 lead. Cadden ran it in from two yards out to mark his second touchdown and the Orange and Blue’s third rushing touchdown of the day. Richmond would respond to make the score 28-24 heading into the final 15 minutes.
The Bison found a way to shut down the Spiders’ offensive rhythm, holding them scoreless through the entirety of the fourth quarter. The Orange and Blue outscored Richmond 9-0 in the fourth quarter to take the victory. First, Schearer nailed a boot from 27 yards out to bring the Bison within one. On its next possession, the Orange and Blue sealed the coffin, as Ralph Rucker IV ’26 connected with Nate Anderson ’26 for a 20-yard touchdown.
An interception by Darius Day ’28 would end it.
Rucker finished the contest completing 24-of-34 (70.6%) passes for 284 yards and a touchdown. Bush led the ground game with eight carries for 47 yards and a touchdown. Sam Milligan ’27 led the receiving room with 11 catches for 133 yards.
Now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Patriot League play, the Bison will face Lafayette on the road next on Oct. 11.
