In the NFL’s Game of the Week on November 2nd, the Buffalo Bills hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in a battle between the top two quarterbacks in the league, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. The pair are arguably the two leaders for the NFL’s MVP award, and this contest played major implications in both the award frontrunner and playoff picture for both franchises.
Buffalo took advantage on its home turf, completely outplaying Kansas City on the offensive side of the ball in the first half. The Bills entered the second quarter with a 7-0 lead, then piled it on, outsourcing the Chiefs 14-13 in the second quarter to head into the halftime locker room with a 21-13 lead.
The Chiefs looked dead in the water, going scoreless through the third quarter, coming out of halftime with no offensive rhythm. After Allen ran it into the end zone from one yard out with less than two minutes to go in the third, it looked like the game was already over.
However, Mahomes still had magic leftover, and nearly led Kansas City to a massive comeback victory. The Chiefs delivered an 11-play, 66-yard drive to begin the final 15 minutes, which was capped off by a Kareem Hunt rushing touchdown. A converted two-point try made the tally a one possession 28-21 game.
The Chiefs forced a punt on the Bills’ next possession, giving Mahomes a chance to make a miracle happen once again. However, on the fifth play of the drive, Mahomes was intercepted on a deep attempt to Xavier Worthy, sucking the life out of the team.
The game was essentially over as Buffalo kicker Matt Prater lined up a 52-yarder to ice it with under 30 seconds to go. Silence filled the stadium, as Prater missed, giving the Chiefs yet another chance to take the win.
Kansas City moved the chains slightly, but just didn’t have enough to get it done. The Bills defeated the Chiefs 28-21, and Mahomes is now 1-4 in the regular season against the Bills.
