Men’s Tennis went 2-0 over the weekend in South Williamsport, Pa., downing Georgetown 5-2 on Friday and Johns Hopkins 5-2 on Sunday to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Against Georgetown, the Bison snapped a five-match losing streak against the Hoyas, their last win coming in 1988. The duo of Amar Tahirovic ’26 and Brendan McDonald ’26 gave the Orange and Blue a strong start with their 6-1 win. The Hoya pair held their serve, but dropped the next six games as the Bison partnership finished the match in just 18 minutes.
With this win, McDonald is just one doubles win away from tying the team record of 87. The duo of Oscar Bain ’26 and Liam Kilmer ’27 picked up another doubles win, 6-4. In singles action, Tahirovic won his match with a 7-5, 6-4 to record his 100th career singles win. Kilmer, Bain and Will Robinson ’27 all claimed victory in their singles matches as the Bison improved to 3-11 all-time against Georgetown.
Against Johns Hopkins, the Orange and Blue claimed their fourth consecutive dual match victory. McDonald and Bain paired up to find a doubles victory on the top court. This was McDonald’s 87th career doubles victory, which tied the school record, set by Ryan Sandburg ’09 in 2009.
The Bison would go on to drop the other two doubles matches, meaning they would need to win four of six in singles, despite missing the All-Patriot League duo of Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas ’26.
Robinson and Bain picked up their wins on the fourth and fifth courts, and Nelson Alapi ’28 picked up a win after his opponent retired due to injury. Kilmer, stepping up into the first court for the first time, came back from a first-set loss to win in three sets as the Orange and Blue defeated the Blue Jays.
Men’s Tennis continues its season in Philadelphia against St. Joseph’s on Feb. 21 and Drexel on Feb. 22.
