Record-setting weekend for Bison at PL Indoor Championships

The Bison traveled to Boston University for the Patriot League Indoor Championships on Feb. 19-21. While it was a record-setting weekend, the Orange and Blue were edged out by Boston by seven points.

To kick off the Championships, the 4×800-meter relay team consisting of Christine Bendzinski ’18, Emma Harris ’18, Seline Tan-Torres ’17, and Sarah Chandler ’17 won the relay and set a Patriot League record with a time of 8:53.53. They beat the previous record set last year by another Orange and Blue 4×800-meter relay team by an impressive two seconds. Sophia Nnadi ’16 claimed the weight throw title with a toss of 54-3 ¾, ranking sixth in program history. Kate Scott ’17 was runner up in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:04.75, which is a personal record and third-best in school history. After a promising first day, the Bison were in first place, but unfortunately their efforts on the final day of competition were just edged out by Boston University.

Many other Bison also scored for the team over the weekend. Chandler followed up by winning the 1,000-meter run with a Patriot League record time of 2:49.96. Following Chandler, teammate Bedzinski came in at 2:50.71. Jess Bridle ’16 broke the school record in the 200-meter dash, but was runner-up in her event. The distance medley team made up of Grace Loh ’17, Laura Papili ’17, Harris, and Chandler came in second with a time of 11:56.55, and the 4×400-meter relay team consisting of Allison Sharkey ’17, Elyse Pettaway ’17, Jen Silvestri ’16, and Bridle had a second-place finish as well. Kafilat Oladiran ’18 took second place in the 60-meter hurdles, while Silvestri finished in sixth. Also runner-up in her event, Nnadi recorded a toss of 46-0 in the shot put. In the 3,000-meter run, Scott followed up with a fourth place finish and a personal record.

All of the record-breaking and strong performances were unfortunately not enough for the Bison to defeat Boston University. The team will return to Boston on March 5-6 to compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships.
