Bucknell football wide receiver Sam Milligan ’27 takes this week’s Bison of the Week honors after a stellar performance against VMI last Saturday. His efforts won the home game for the Bison 35-28, with Milligan scoring a record-breaking four touchdowns.
Milligan stepped on the gas in the first two periods, scoring three of his four touchdowns before halftime. This rushed the Bison to an early 21-7 lead. However, Milligan sat out for the majority of the third quarter due to a small injury. When he returned to the contest in the fourth quarter, VMI had made a comeback to tie the game 28-28. Milligan hauled in an epic 37-yard catch in the end zone in the last two minutes of the game to push the Bison ahead. He finished the game with seven receptions for 192 yards and four touchdowns, setting career-highs in all of those categories.
The previous record for touchdowns in a single game was capped at three, with six previous Bison tied for it: Carl Probst ’71, Ken Jenkins ’80, Mike Morrow ’86, Will Carter ’14, Jake Hartman ’14 and Dominic Lyles ’21. Milligan’s performance also put him at sixth in program history for receiving yards.
The Orange and Blue are now 2-1 with a rivalry match next against Lehigh at home on Saturday, Sept. 20.
