Women’s Water Polo competed at the CWPA Crossover, hosted by Princeton, on Saturday, March 21. They split their two games 1-1, falling to No. 22 Brown, 18-3, but defeating Mercyhurst, 11-6.
For both games, the Bison lacked their sole goalkeeper, Tamara Torkos ’27, which required Lehua Bender ’27 to fill in. It was a rough first period for the Orange and Blue as they quickly fell behind 8-0.
The second half was not much better as the Bison conceded five more. Addie Wedding ’29 netted the Orange and Blue’s first goal of the day as they entered halftime down 13-1.
Ava Bayne ’28 found her first goal in the third quarter as Wedding tacked on one more of her own. However, it was not enough as the Bears would score five more en route to an 18-3 victory.
In their second match of the day, the Bison found themselves down early to the Lakers, 2-1. However, the Orange and Blue rallied to find three more goals before halftime to even the score at 4-4. A 3-0 run with goals from Olivia Hopper ’28, Lin Naraoka ’29 and Caitlin Stott ’27 in the third quarter helped the Bison break away from Mercyhurst.
The fourth quarter helped to seal the match as the Orange and Blue tacked on four more while holding the Lakers to just two, finding their 12th win of the season, 11-6.
Women’s Water Polo continues its season at the CWPA Championship, hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on April 10-12.
