Women’s Soccer endured another tough week of matches as it played No. 16 Georgetown and Towson. The Orange and Blue faced off against Georgetown on Thursday, Sept. 11, and Towson on Sunday, Sept. 14. Despite matching Georgetown’s physicality, the Bison lost 1-0 from a penalty kick in the last three minutes. Later in the weekend, the Bison tied 1-1 with Towson, moving their season record to 2-5-2.
The Bison fought hard against Georgetown at Holmes Stadium as they tried to outmatch their opponent. The Orange and Blue took a stronger offensive hold in the first half, but drew back to the defensive line in the second, where Reese Dolan ’28 made highlight-level saves. Henna Andican ’26 attempted four of the team’s nine shots, and was the closest to tying the match with attempts in the first and last seconds of the game. Gabby Parker ’29 also made close attempts, but ultimately failed to convert her scoring chances. Georgetown controlled the game for most of the last 35 minutes, but had a plethora of goal attempts blocked by the Bison. Georgetown pulled a goal from a penalty kick in the 86th minute that closed the game for them, leaving the Bison with a loss on their schedule.
On Sunday, the Bison continued to fight hard against Towson. 38 total shots were attempted, 22 coming from the Tigers. Despite Towson’s quick advancement on the ball, the Bison settled into play for the next 45 minutes of the half. Riley Hayes ’27 made good distance attempts for the goal, but were ultimately blocked by the goalkeeper. Leah Bolson ’29 made a similar attempt in the 40th minute that went just wide of the goal. Less than two minutes into the second half, Andican scored her fifth goal of the year, putting the Bison in the lead. However, Towson soon made their own goal to the match in the 83rd minute, despite Dolan making six saves in the half. This led to the Bison’s fifth tie of the season.
The Bison now turn their heads towards Patriot League play with their upcoming away match against Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 20.
