Bucknell Volleyball had another two-game weekend. The Bison were dominant, defeating both Lehigh and Lafayette in just four sets. The Orange and Blue are undefeated in the conference, with the two victories for the Bison making them 2-0.
The Orange and Blue started at home against Lehigh on Friday, Sept. 19. It was a tight match with 38 ties, but the Bison prevailed, winning three of the four sets back to back.
Tijana Kostic ’26 secured another double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Bella Rodriguez ’28 collected 14 kills of her own, with Riley Tucker ’26 joining her in the double digits with 10 kills. Caleigh O’Connell ’26 collected 43 assists and Cameron Lloyd ’27 averaged eight digs a set.
The first set was the first of three tight sets as Lehigh started off the scoring, leading 12-8. The Mountain Hawks charged ahead to a 17-13 lead before the Bison fought back with a 6-1 run. The teams tied it up at 22-22 before Lehigh led a 3-1 run.
The second set was much closer, with neither team taking a major lead. Lehigh led 21-18 until the Orange and Blue took the set with kills from Kostic and Rodriguez. The Bison turned up the heat in the third with a 9-3 run after a rough start. With the score at 10-9, the Orange and Blue charged ahead to secure the set at 25-16.
Lehigh fought back in the fourth with a 6-1 lead until the Bison returned with a 6-1 run of their own. The teams went back and forth until Lehigh regained the lead on a 4-1 stretch to bring the score to 18-16. With the game at 24-21, Lehigh brought the game to a one-point gap after two points of their own. However, the Bison secured the set and the match with a kill from Rodriguez. Lehigh challenged the point but after just 30 seconds the victory was confirmed for the Orange and Blue.
Coming off their win over Lehigh, the Bison traveled to Easton, Pa., to take on Lafayette on Sunday, Sept. 21. The game ended in a 3-1 victory for the Orange and Blue, extending their winning streak against the Leopards to seven.
Sidney Shaffer ’27 and Rodriguez were tied for most kills at 18. Kostic once again managed another double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs and O’Connell aided with 49 assists. The Bison was superior to Lafayette when it came to kills, going 64 to 39 and kept the Leopard hitting average to only .107.
The Leopards had the lead at the start of the first set until the Orange and Blue brought the score to 13-4. The Bison couldn’t be caught at this point, and a 3-0 run gave them the set with a score of 25-13. The Orange and Blue started with the lead, this time getting to 14-6 before the Leopards started coming back to bring the score to 17-15. With an 8-3 run the Bison took the set, going 25-18.
The Orange and Blue lost their only set of the game in the third, going 22-25 against the leopards. The score was tied at 9-9 when the Bison made a run, bringing the score to 18-23, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Lafayette from the win. Going into the fourth, the Leopards scored the first four points before the Orange and Blue tied it up at 5-5. The game was close with the Bison down by two but after an 8-0 run the Orange and Blue took the set with 25 points to the Leopards 19.
The Bison hope to continue their winning streak as they take on Holy Cross this Friday, Sept. 26.
