Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving competed in a quad meet against American, Lafayette and Navy, in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday, Nov. 8. Both teams defeated American and Lafayette, but fell to Navy.
Clara Renner ’28 was the only Bison to win an event on the day as she claimed gold in the 200-yard and 100-yard butterfly. Kelly Byrne ’27 found a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in 10:26.83, just four seconds away from the win. Byrne would also place third in the 500-yard freestyle later in the day, with a time of 5:09.67. Sofia Burns ’28 added another runner-up finish to the Orange and Blue’s total, falling short of the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke by just two-tenths of a second with a time of 2:05.53. Tori Castro ’29 found a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a mark of 24.25 seconds, just 0.27 seconds away from the winner. Overall, the Midshipmen claimed 12 event wins, while American and the Bison tallied two each. The Orange and Blue defeated American 200-97, Lafayette 224-76, but were defeated by Navy 177-112.
The men’s side was dominated by the Midshipmen as Navy won all 16 events, as they look to return to the top of the Patriot League this year after being downed by Army, breaking their 20-year conference championship winning streak. The Bison found two podium finishes on the day. James Lombardi ’27 found silver in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:08.52. Jackson Vinarub ’26 added the other top-three finish for the Bison as he tallied a score of 293.50 for third place behind two Midshipmen, but ahead of multiple Leopards and Eagles. The Orange and Blue would leave the meet with dominant wins over American (226-70) and Lafayette (217.5-81.5), but a loss to Navy (185-104).
Swimming and Diving continue their season on Nov. 21-23 at the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium.
