Men’s and Women’s Track and Field split time across two meets last weekend, competing at the Raleigh Relays and a dual meet against Binghampton in Lewisburg. Both squads convincingly defeated the Bearcats, with the men winning 125-36 and the women winning 124-58.
In North Carolina, the Bison’s performances were headlined by Wade Shomper ’26, who placed second in the shot put. Shomper, coming off a Patriot League title in the event, tossed a new personal-best mark of 59-09.75 feet, breaking his own school record. This result earned him Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, and his mark ranks him as No. 1 in the Patriot League and No. 20 in Division 1 for the shot put.
Braiden Pulver ’28 was not far behind him in the event, placing 12th, with a throw of 54-08 feet. Justley Sharp ’27 and Madison Fowler ’28 continued the Orange and Blue’s success in the event, placing eighth and 12th, respectively. Sharp threw 47-09 feet while Fowler was right behind her, tossing 46-10.75 feet. The throwers continued to show their might as Brylee Tereska ’26 placed eighth in the javelin with a mark of 153-07 feet.
Back in Lewisburg, the Bison competed against Binghampton in the BU vs BU dual. The Orange and Blue swept the distance events, starting with the 3000-meter steeplechase. Meghan Rentner ’26 found the win in 10:49.59, while Ryan Pepperman ’29, debuting in the event, claimed an easy victory in 9:22.21. Later in the 1500 meters, Katrina Torelli ’27 ran away from the field on the last lap, closing in 1:09 to run a 4:34.63.
Ethan Pratt-Perez ’28 would do the same, holding off Cooper Hollinger ’29 to seal the win in 3:54.27. Grace Vives ’26 took the gold in the 5000 meters, running 17:28.98 for the win. Michael Devine ’29 did the same, finishing in 15:06.98.
The Bison also had success in the shorter distances, with the women winning the 200-, 400-, and 800-meter events. In the 200 meters, Piper Portacio ’29 found a narrow victory, blazing a time of 25.46 seconds. Raygan Lust ’29 would tack on another Orange and Blue victory, winning the 400 meters in 56.48 seconds, before Shaelan McNally ’28 added another in the 800 meters, running 2:14.08, just ahead of Katie Moncavage ’28 in second-place.
The men had similar success as Luke Petryna ’28 won the 200 meters in 21.84 and Colin Burke ’29 claimed victory in the 400 meters, running 49.52 seconds.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field continue their season on April 2-4 in Williamsburg, Va., at the Colonial Relays.
