Men’s and Women’s Track and Field competed at the 60th edition of the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary, winning the meet for the third consecutive year, with 217.5 and 201 points for the women and men, respectively.
The headliner for the Bison was Evelyn Bliss ’27, the reigning US National Champion in the javelin. Bliss threw a mark of 196-08 feet to break the 34-year-old meet and facility records as well as secure a first-place finish. Bliss’ outing placed her at the top of the NCAA Division 1 performance list in the event and earned her Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
The Orange and Blue had a lot of success in the throws as Julia Sobilo ’29 won the discus with a throw of 150-09 feet and Madison Fowler ’28 found a second-place finish in the hammer with a 168-11-foot mark. The women were also dominant in the relays, taking gold in the 4×400 and 4×1500 relays and silver in the 4×100 and distance medley relays.
In the individual events on the track, Noelani Sadler ’28 broke her own school record in the 100 hurdles by one hundredth of a second, running 14.12 seconds to finish in second place.
Alex Lea ’28 blazed a time of 54.65 seconds in the 400 meters to take the top spot in the event. In the mid-distance events, Katrina Torelli ’27 won the 800 meters in 2:13.88, and Grace Vives ’26 took down the field in the 1500 meters, running 4:31.89.
The Bison men had similar success in the throws, winning three of the four events. Aiden Tacker ’26 won the hammer, tossing a mark of 192-06 feet. Keenan LaMontagne ’26 led Alex Polenik ’29 and Wade Shomper ’26 to a 1-2-3 finish in the discus, throwing 163-11 feet for the win. Shomper would double back to claim the top spot in the shot put, utilizing a 56-10.25-foot heave.
On the track, Ethan Pratt-Perez ’28 had a dominant showing in the 3000-meter steeplechase, blazing a 9:03.07 time, almost 10 seconds ahead of second place. Pratt-Perez’s performance is the fastest in the Patriot League this year and earned him Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors. In the relays, the Orange and Blue won the 4×100 and 4×400.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field continue their season in Lewisburg on April 11-13 at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
