Women’s Soccer begins Patriot League play

This past Saturday, Sept. 16, the Bison Women’s Soccer team played in their Patriot League openers at Colgate, ending in a tie game of 0-0. This game marked the team’s fifth consecutive draw against a league opponent.

While the Bison took a number of great shots and held a strong defense, they couldn’t find the  opening to win out over their opponent. Although it was a tie game, the Raiders just beat the Bison in total shots taken 12-11. And, while the Raiders goalie finished the game with six saves, the Bison’s goalkeeper, Jenna Hall ’24 finished with four.

The Orange and Blue still took a number of impressive shots with their closest being taken by forward Kalli Wethern ’25 off of an assist by Teresa Deda ’25. Unfortunately, the Raiders’ goalie saved the shot. In the last 17 minutes, the Raiders dominated the position of the ball with a number of impressive shots, but the Bison kept a strong defense and ultimately didn’t let the ball through.

Looking forward, Hall said: “Despite the outcome of the game, the team realized that we can not take any team for granted. The Patriot League is a very competitive conference and this year we can’t go in thinking we are going to win every game. It has never worked that way. No matter who we are playing we need to put our best foot forward.”

Currently, the Bison hold a record of 5-2-2 and look to improve it as they compete against Army away on Sept. 23.
