Women’s Soccer continues to improve

This past Saturday afternoon, the Bison Women’s Soccer Team tied 3-3 with Boston University after two halves of equal play. Prior to the game, the Orange and Blue were in second place in the Patriot League with Boston University following close behind.

Although the players endured a cold and rainy day at Emmett Stadium, both teams continued to fight for the win the entire game. After a short period of time, sophomore forward Henna Andican attempted a shot on goal that was ultimately saved by the Terriers goalkeeper. It was not long after that the Terries gained the lead with a goal from Morgan Fagan.

It wasn’t until the 28th minute that the Bison were able to tie it up after midfielder Teresa Deda ’25 sent a stellar assist to forward Kelley Francis ’25 who was able to get a shot in on the left side-netting giving her her third goal of the season. Soon, Deda was able to deliver the Bison their first lead of the day with a 1v1 to goal. Yet, it wasn’t long before Fagan fought to tie the score for the second time that day to now be 2-2.

The score stayed 2-2 until the 72nd minute when forward Paige Temple ’25 found a header assist from forward Kalli Wethern ’25 to touch the ball in with her left foot. Temple also now has 3 goals in the season so far. Again, the Bison unfortunately lost their lead after only six minutes when Terrier Margy Porta scored her first goal of the season making the score 3-3. In the final ten minutes, the Orange and Blue had a few more chances to try and win the game over the Terriers but just could not find the lucky shot. Goalkeeper Jenna Hall ’24 finished the game with six saves while the Boston University goalkeeper had 7 saves.

Earlier the next week, the women’s soccer team hit the road for a midweek matchup against Princeton. This marks the Bison’s second time ever beating an Ivy League power and being the Tigers first home field loss.

The Bison’s defense really stepped up to keep the Tigers out. Hall marked her 24th career shutout with the support of her defenders.

Offensively the Orange and Blue were outshot 23-5, but only needed one goal to seal the deal. The Tigers kept up their offensive pressure the entire game. Nearing the end of the game, the Bison made a few substitutions to bring up the energy right before the only goal of the game.

Laura Schmidt ’25 managed to pick off a Princeton pass and sent it down the field to Andican, who then found Deda charging upfield. Deda beat a Tiger to the ball and fired a shot towards the Princeton goal. The ball smashed in the right side of the net and gave the Bison a 1-0 advantage. The goal changed the energy of the game and the Tiger soon lost steam and the pressure soon came off.

The Bison will be back competing in Patriot League play this weekend after Senior Day celebrations.
