This past Saturday, Bison Men’s Lacrosse fell 14-10 in their season opener against Merrimack.

Five minutes into the game, Connor Davis ’25 made the first of his five goals to put the Orange & Blue up 1-0 to start the game. This would be the last time the Bison led the game as Merrimack quickly took a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

Peter Grandolfo ’27 started the second quarter strongly, tying the game 3-3, which was one of three of Grandolfo’s goals. With 6:38 left in the half, Davis scored a second goal to once again tie the score at 4-4; but by the end of the first half, the Bison were down again 6-4. At the start of the second half, Merrimack continued their run with five more goals, four of which were scored in less than two minutes. Bucknell eventually responded with a 4-0 run, however, it was not enough to catch up to the Warriors, who still led 11-8. Three of those 4 goals were assisted by Michael Meyer ’26, and one was scored by Meyer, who totaled four points on goal throughout the game.

The teams went back and forth from there but the Bison were unable to make enough of a comeback to secure a win.

Strong performances came from Grandolfo who became the third Bison over the last three years to score a hat trick in his first career game and Brendan Coyle ’24, who took 26 of the 27 faceoffs as the “FOGO” specialist for the Bison.

Men’s Lacrosse travels to New York next to take on Marist this Saturday, Feb. 10.
