The Bison Field Hockey team had a two-game weekend to start off the season. The Orange and Blue walked away with a 1-1 record after their weekend in Connecticut.
In the first match of the weekend, the Orange and Blue took on Sacred Heart University last Friday night. The Bison started the season strong, beating the Pioneers 2-1.
Ryane Fisahn ’27 scored the Bison their first game point during the second quarter. Saskia de Koster ’29 made her career debut, providing Fisahn with an assist.
The game started out slow with a first quarter full of penalties and wide shots for both teams. The second quarter picked up with the first goal from the Bison that was quickly matched by the Pioneers with a penalty corner shot. Reese Czajkowski ’28 brought back the lead with an assist from Kira Leclercq ’26, bringing the score to 2-1 going into halftime.
The Orange and Blue held an impenetrable defense, preventing the Pioneers from a single shot for the entire third quarter. With no more points being scored by either team through the second half, the game ended with a 2-1 win for the Bison.
Overall, the Orange and Blue had a great game defensively, including goalie Sarah Althouse ’27, who had four saves. The Bison also had more shots on goal, going 14-9 to SHU.
Hoping to make their record 2-0, the Bison traveled to Hamden, Connecticut to take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats. The Orange and Blue had a hard time finding the back of the net this game, losing 0-2 to the Bobcats.
The first half started off equally for both teams, who each took four shots on goal, none of which made it past the goalie. Going into halftime, the score still stood at 0-0.
The Bobcats came back in the third quarter, putting the first point on the board and further extending their lead in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. Leclercq tried to fight back with a penalty opportunity but was denied. The game ended with the Bobcats taking home the 2-0 win.
Despite the tough loss, Althouse saved four goals in the game, double that of the opposing goalie.
The Bison hope for another win with their home opener today Sept. 5, against Saint Francis.
