Men’s Water Polo continued its tough fall schedule by adding another win and loss to the slate. The Bison suffered a loss to No. 19 George Washington on Oct. 4, 17-8, then picked up a victory against Mercyhurst 26-12 later that same weekend on Sunday. This puts the team’s overall record to 5-10 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
The matchup against conference foe George Washington proved to be a tough one, as the Bison struggled to keep up with the Revolutionaries. Tyler Hedblad ’28 and Jack Murad ’26 led four other Bison scorers with two goals each. George Washington started its lead early in the first quarter, 6-2. Trying to catch up, the Orange and Blue stepped up in the second to score four goals, twice as many as in the first. It wasn’t enough as the Revolutionaries, going into halftime, still led by four. The Bison found another four points in the third, but ended the fourth quarter scoreless. George Washington ended the match 17-8.
The match against Mercyhurst was action-packed for the Bison, as they had ten different scorers for their collectively earned 26 points. Goalkeeper Mateo Herrera ’26 totaled five saves to prevent the Lakers from scoring. Aleksa Stefanovic ’26 led the team in goals with five, and the team went 26-of-36 shooting. From the first quarter on, the Bison already shunned Mercyhurst with an 8-2 lead. While the Lakers tried to catch up by scoring four more goals in the second quarter, the Orange and Blue continued to dominate by doubling their score to 16 at the half. Even though Mercyhurst scored more goals in the third quarter, 3-2, the Bison were still ahead by nine. The Bison picked up another eight-point quarter in the fourth to finish the contest with a 14-point lead against the Lakers, which gave them another conference win under their belt.
The Bison will be back in action this weekend at home to play Mercyhurst again on Oct. 10 and then Mount St. Mary’s the following day.
