Men’s Water Polo finished fifth at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championships, falling to Wagner (21-13) in the first round, but defeating Mercyhurst (23-6) and Mount St. Mary’s (14-12) in the consolation rounds.
The Bison entered the tournament having won two of their last three, including a close 18-17 victory over the Seahawks in their last outing.
The Orange and Blue struggled in the first quarter, allowing six straight goals before Tyler Hedblad ’28 found the back of the net to stop the run. Down 7-1, the Bison found some momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Wagner 6-5 to enter halftime down 12-7. Goals from Aleksa Stefanovic ’26 and Sean Tunnicliff ’27 cut the Seahawks’ lead to three at the beginning of the second half, but the Orange and Blue conceded another 7-1 run. The Bison ultimately fell to Wagner 21-13 and were knocked out of contention in the first round.
The following day, the Orange and Blue took on Mercyhurst in their first consolation game. The Lakers tied the game at 1-1 early in the first quarter, but that was as close as Mercyhurst would get, as Stefanovic netted five goals to give the Bison a 7-2 lead going into the second quarter. The Orange and Blue continued their dominance as they put up six more goals before halftime. The second half was similar to the first, as the Bison put up 10 more goals and conceded just two to complete the season sweep of the Lakers.
On Sunday, Nov. 23, the Orange and Blue wrapped up their season against the Mountaineers. This match was much closer as the score was 6-5 going into halftime. Mount St. Mary’s evened it up less than a minute into the second half, but the Bison responded with two of their own. With a one-goal lead going into the fourth quarter, the Orange and Blue battled with the Mountaineers. The Bison pulled ahead multiple times, but Mount St. Mary’s kept responding, forcing the game into overtime with just 25 seconds to play. The Orange and Blue defense powered the overtime victory, shutting the Mountaineers out to win and complete the season sweep.
Men’s Water Polo finished their season with an overall record of 12-16 and a conference record of 6-6.
