This past weekend, Men’s Water Polo competed against conference rival Navy at Mercyhurst’s Hallman Aquatic Center, losing 19-14.
The Bison entered the match coming off three consecutive victories, including a big Senior Night win against Mount St. Mary’s, where they scored 13 goals and conceded 9. On the other hand, the Midshipmen arrived in Erie having won four of their last five games.
In the first quarter, the Bison traded goals back and forth with the Midshipmen. The two teams remained tied 2-2 before Navy went on a 3-1 run to leave the Orange and Blue trailing 5-3.
In the second quarter, the Bison added four goals, but the Midshipmen answered with six in the back of the cage, leading to an 11-7 deficit at halftime.
The Orange and Blue and the Midshipmen remained even in the third quarter, each adding five goals to their score. Navy secured the win in the final quarter, scoring three goals to the Bison’s two, closing the game 19-14. Jack Murad ’26 led the Orange and Blue, scoring five goals. Jack Dillane ’28 and Ori Raz ’29 followed, netting three goals each. Goalkeepers David Dumitru ’27 and Mateo Herrera ’26 held position in goal, but couldn’t withstand the Midshipmen’s attack.
Men’s Water Polo continues next in Santa Clara and San Jose, Calif., on Oct. 24 at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament facing Fresno Pacific, Pacific, California Baptist and LMU.
