Women’s Basketball traveled to Charlottesville last Sunday to take on the Virginia Cavaliers, falling 80-35. The Cavaliers opened the game with a 13-point run, and the Bison could not comeback despite a close second quarter. Turnovers, missed shots and being out-rebounded proved costly for the Bison.
Tuana Coskun ’27 recorded 10 points, all of which came in the second quarter. Coskun also contributed an assist and two rebounds. Kaila Richards ’29 led the Bison with four rebounds, and Ella Kreuzer ’29 led the team with three assists. Reese Zemitis ’28 led the team with two steals and was second in scoring, adding nine points. Anna Kunzwiler ’27, Elana Weisman ’28, Kreuzer and Richards each scored four points.
The Orange and Blue shot 15-of-52 from the field and 1-of-15 from beyond the arc. The Bison’s 16 turnovers were detrimental.
About halfway through the first quarter, Kunzwiler broke the Cavalier’s scoring streak and put the Bison on the scoreboard with a driving layup. The Cavaliers held a 20-point lead coming out of the first quarter. The second quarter was more competitive, and Coskun put up 10 points. Despite the Bison slowing down the game by forcing some Cavalier turnovers, Virginia held a 42-20 lead at the half. Zemetis responded to Virginia’s streak in the third with a three-pointer. The Bison trailed 66-27 at the end of the third. Kreuzer opened the fourth quarter with a fast layup off a Cavalier turnover. Kunzwiler’s final shot of the game cut the Cavalier’s lead to 80-35.
The Orange and Blue continue their season in Ohio on Sunday, Nov. 16 against Youngstown State.
