Women’s Basketball continued their regular season over the break with contests against Hofstra, Albany, Brown and Le Moyne. The Bison started with a strong 61-55 win over Hofstra on Nov. 22, followed by another victory against Le Moyne at home on Bucknell’s Education Day. The Bison then dropped two back-to-back contests, first against Brown on Friday, Nov. 28 and another against Albany this past Monday, Dec. 1.
The Orange and Blue traveled to New York for their matchup against Hofstra. The Bison gained a strong lead in the first quarter, but the Pride stayed on their heels by minimizing the gap from 18 to two in the fourth quarter. Reese Zemitis ’28 hit a career-high of five three-pointers to solidify the home win. Zemitis also led the team in points with 21, with Isabella Casey ’28 and Elana Weisman ’28 also hitting double digits. Anna Kunzwiler ’27 led in rebounds with seven, tying her career-high. This victory gave the Bison their first road win of the season.
The Bison’s next game took place at Sojka Pavilion against the Le Moyne Dolphins. The Bison dominated the first quarter with a 14-0 scoring run, then hit another 12-0 run between the second and third. Tuana Coskun ’27 tallied a career-high in scoring with 19 points. Zemitis and Weisman both scored in double-digits again with 14 and 10, respectively. The Orange and Blue’s defense also proved strong as it totaled 10 blocks. The score ended with a 65-41 win for the Orange and Blue, improving their record to 3-3.
The Bison had another home game versus Brown, which ended their short-lived winning streak. Despite the loss, Mariah Hardy ’29 notched career-highs of 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Zemitis tied Hardy with 11 points of her own and Coskun led the team in assists with three. The Bears had a strong start as they outscored the Bison 12-2 in the first five minutes. Hardy responded in the second with her first collegiate three-pointer, leading to some back-and-forth between the two clubs. The Bison made some final attempts in the last quarter with a 9-0 run, until Brown broke it up in the last three minutes of the game. The score ended 61-50, ending the Bison’s home-game winning streak.
The Bison followed with another home loss in overtime against UAlbany this past Monday. The game bounced back and forth between the Bison and Great Danes, and a last-second shot by Coskun managed to tie the score 53-53 at the end of the fourth quarter to force overtime. Zemitis immediately banked in a three-pointer in the beginning of the extra period, which was quickly matched by the same shot from Albany. Despite another great shot by Weisman to add another three points to the Bison’s score, Albany responded this time with two three-pointers to charge ahead of Bucknell. The game ended 65-62, giving the Bison a 3-5 record on the season so far.
The Orange and Blue will be back in action this weekend at Vermont on Friday, Dec. 5 and Dartmouth on Sunday, Dec. 7.
