Last Thursday, Jan. 29, Men’s Wrestling competed in the 26th Susquehanna Showdown against Lock Haven at home, losing 19-15.
The Bison are coming off a tough loss against Army at West Point; on the other hand, Lock Haven enters the matchup with a multi-game win streak, setting them at the top of their conference. Trailing 16-8, the Bison battled to force a deciding, winner-take-all matchup.
Facing a multi-match deficit, the momentum shifted as Dylan Chappell ’26 secured a crucial 10-7 victory to put the Bison on the board. Noah Mulvaney ’27 then dominated his bout with a 15-0 tech fall, while Tyler Bienus ’28 and Dillon Bechtold ’28 further fueled the surge with decisive wins, narrowing the gap heading into the showdown.
Lucas Lawler ’29 earned an early escape point to take the lead, but his opponent evened the score in the third round, which sent the match into overtime. Despite a late attack by Lawler, his opponent capitalized on the opening and secured the takedown. Ultimately, the Bison fell 19-15 to Lock Haven.
The Bison compete next in Philadelphia against Drexel on Feb. 7.
