This past weekend, Men’s Wrestling faced Drexel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, winning 21-17.
The Bison enter one of two crucial EIWA duals coming off tough matchups against Army and Lock Haven. On the opposing side, the Dragons enter the battle with a 12-3 overall record and a 4-0 record in EIWA competition.
The Orange and Blue trailed 11-6 after the first five bouts. With the deficit in mind, Noah Mulvaney ’27 entered his matchup tasked with stopping the Dragon’s momentum.
He answered with a crucial 6-3 decision over his opponent to begin the Bison comeback. This marked him as the first Bison to reach the 20-win bar this season, improving his dual record to 14-1. Following the victory, Myles Takats ’27 secured an 18-5 major decision over his opponent, giving the lead back to the Bison, 13-11. Tyler Bienus ’28 furthered the lead with a 16-1 tech fall, adding to his 5-0 record in EIWA duals and advancing the score to 18-11. Dillon Bechtold ’28 solidified the lead 21-11 with a 5-4 decision over his opponent with seconds remaining in the third period.
The Dragons surged late, but the Bison kept them at arm’s length to secure the 21-17 victory. The Orange and Blue then faced Navy in Annapolis, Maryland, losing 19-18.
The opening bouts at 125 and 133 were lightning fast, with each side securing a pin. After Navy took an early lead, Bryce Manera ’29 leveled the score at 6-6, earning his first ranked victory. In the 141 class, the Midshipmen recaptured the lead with a 13-7 decision, making the score 9-6.
The Bison responded, as Braden Bower ’26 tied the dual with a late three-period takedown.
Navy momentarily regained momentum with a victory, but Mulvaney quickly went to work. Behind a crucial takedown, Mulvaney pulled the Bison within one, bringing the team score to 13-12.
Takats continued the momentum with an epic decision to give the Bison the 15-13 lead. The Midshipmen regained the advantage 16-15, but Bechtold kept the Orange and Blue alive with a 2-0 decision to mark the score 18-16 heading into the final. Despite a valiant effort to secure the upset, the Bison fell just short as Navy secured the final points to end a 19-18 victory for the Midshipmen.
The Bison compete next against Lehigh in Bethleham, Pa. on Feb. 14.
