Women’s Golf places third at Youngstown State Invitational

Bucknell Women’s Golf traveled to Warren, Ohio over the weekend to compete in the Youngstown State Invitational. 

On Sunday, April 7th, Katherine Vice ’27 earned a team-best 77, while senior twin sisters Kayla Yi ’24 and Kelsey Yi ’24 posted 78’s. Overall on the first day, Bucknell totaled a 313 team score and were seeded in third place of six at the halfway point. 

After tallying 42 on the front nine, Vice made back-to-back birdies at holes 11 and 12, followed by six straight pars to shoot 1-under 35 on the back nine. Kayla Yi also had a great start, earning a birdie at hole 9 to shoot an even-par 36 on the front side. 

For the Bison, Tara Thomas ’25 also counted an 80 after bouncing back from a tough start to par 13 of her final 16 holes.

On day two, three Bucknell freshmen tallied scores of 75 or better, contributing to the strong team total of 301. The Bison finished in third place in the team standings, one stroke behind Youngstown State for second. 

Nicole Yun ’27 fired a 1-over-par 73, while teammates Sofia Nogalo ’27 and Vice followed with 75s. Kelsey Yi also contributed to the scoring with a 78.

Two Bison finished in the top ten individually. Vice was the low Bison for the week, finishing in fifth place, while Yi placed ninth. 

Overall, Bucknell posted a 614 total for 36 holes, finishing in third behind Akron (602) and YSU (613), and way ahead of La Salle (659), Saint Francis (661), and Mercyhurst (673).

Bucknell will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday in Annapolis, Maryland competing in the Navy Spring Invitational. After that, the Bison will host the 2024 Patriot League Championship at the Bucknell Golf Club on April 19-21.
