Women’s Tennis falls in Patriot League Quarterfinals

On April 19, Bucknell Women’s Tennis took on Navy in the Patriot League Quarterfinals, where the Bison were seeded seventh and Navy was seeded second. The Bison fell 4-0 to bring their season to an end.

“The Patriot League championships are what we work towards all year. Especially this year, playing in Annapolis was like a full-circle event for our seniors,” Anna Lajos ’25 said. “Heading into the big championship weekend, we were all very locked in and felt prepared both physically and mentally, but also just excited to go out on those courts one more time this year and play some great matches.”

Navy secured the doubles point by winning 6-0 at the No. 2 spot and No. 3 spot. At the No.1 spot, Whitney King ’25 and Abby Platt ’26 were winning 3-2 at first, however, the match went unfinished.

In the No. 2 singles spot, Lajos fell 1-6, 0-6 to give the Midshipmen their second point. Following Lajos, Tyne Miller ’24 fell 2-6, 2-6 in the No. 4 spot and King lost 1-6, 3-6 in the No. 1 spot, to put Navy up 4-0.

The other three singles matches went unfinished, and thus Navy advanced to the semifinals. The Bison ended their season with a 2-5 league record. Despite the loss, the Bison were proud of the work they put in this season.

“It is always a privilege to play against the Navy team. They are incredibly talented and hardworking, and I think playing against them only pushes us to go back out on that court and put more hours of work into it. There will always be a stronger team out there, but that just means there is always more room for growth,” Lajos said. “I appreciate [Navy’s] sportsmanship and attitude on the court and congratulations to Navy for the Championship title this year!”
