Women’s Golf competed in the Battle at the Creek this past Monday and Tuesday hosted by Sacred Heart University at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Del. It was a successful two days for the Orange and Blue, as the team finished tied for third on the team leaderboard.
The first day of play held 36 holes of action, and the Bison came out of the gates hot, running away with a 13-stroke team lead after day one.
Paige Richter ’26 and Sophia Bardunias ’28 led the charge for Bucknell, each with scores of +13 (155) after the first 36 holes. All four Bison in the field this week finished in the top 10 after the conclusion of the first day of the event.
Richter had the low round for Bucknell with a 75 over her first 18, made possible with two birdies on the back nine. She followed that up with an 80 in her second round of 18. Bardunias went 79-76 over her first two rounds to sit with Richter.
Tara Thomas ’25 sat tied for sixth place after day one with rounds of 76 and 80, and Katrina von Behren ’28 sat tied for ninth with scores of 79 and 81.
The Bison couldn’t bring the momentum from Monday into Tuesday as they shot 333 as a team over the final 18 holes after posting 309-317 on Monday.
Bardunias and von Behren led the way for Bucknell, tallying scores of 82 and 83 respectively. Richter and Thomas finished close behind, each with cards of 84.
Bucknell only brought four members of the team to the event, which put the team at a disadvantage since they couldn’t drop their highest score. Nonetheless, the Bison finished in a tie for third place overall behind Mount St. Mary’s and Monmouth.
Women’s Golf competes next in Boardman, Ohio for the Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University at Mill Creek Golf Club North on Sept. 22 and 23.
