Bucknell Women’s Golf continued its fall season winning streak after winning the Battle at the Creek, hosted by Sacred Heart University. The Bison took a strong start on Monday, Sept. 15, and built on it Tuesday to win the team title. Joelle Johnson ’29 placed second individually, with teammates Sophia Bardunias ’28 and Katherine Vice ’27 notching top-ten finishes. This is the first time the Bison have ever won back-to-back tournaments.
The Bison faced 36 holes on Monday. They posted 297 and 295 rounds for a combined 592 score that marks the best 36-hole start on a par-71 course in program history. The Bison placed third as a team behind Columbia and in front of Lehigh after the first round, but were the only program to break 300 that afternoon. Johnson led the team with rounds of 73 and 71 and sat tied in second place with a 2-over 144 total, just two shots behind the leader. Johnson also birdied three holes to cancel out three bogeys during the day. Bardunias’ 1-under performance on the back nine and 5-over (75-72) day snatched her seventh after the first day. Vice also tied for tenth at 8-over 150.
Tuesday proved to be an even stronger day for the Bison, as the team led the field going into the final round on Tuesday. Despite the wind, the Orange and Blue fired 297-295-307 for an 899 in the 54-hole tournament. Each Bison placed in the top 27 out of 90 contenders. Bardunias and Vice built on their positions throughout the day, finishing six-over and seven-over par, respectively. Bardunias shot 75-72-78 to finish in sixth place, an improvement from Monday’s seventh position. Vice posted scores of 74-76-76 to tie for seventh behind her teammate. Johnson held onto her second-place success from the previous day, shooting 73-71-75 to stay at the top of the leaderboard. This gives Johnson back-to-back second-place finishes for her first tournaments as a Bison.
The Orange and Blue will continue their season at Penn State for the Nittany Lion Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 21 and Monday, Sept. 22.
