Men’s Tennis loses 6-1 to Delaware

The Bison men’s tennis team headed to Elkton, Maryland this weekend to take on the undefeated Delaware team, and fell 6-1. The Blue Hens are now 6-0 and are the first team to take the doubles point from the Orange and Blue.

Despite the loss, Amar Tahirovic ’26 and Brendan McDonald ’26 put up a strong fight in the No. 1 doubles match and were headed to a third game tiebreaker, until Delaware secured the point in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.

Tahirovic continued to fight in his No. 1 singles match, as did Liam Kilmer ’27 at No. 5, however both lost in a third-set super tiebreaker. Adam Stavrakas ’26, Oscar Bain ’26 and McDonald all fell in their individual No. 2, 3 and 4 singles matches in straight sets.

Tim Zelikovsky ’24 secured the only point for the Bison in the No. 6 singles match with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 win. Despite the loss, Zelikovsky is confident the Bison will continue to perform strongly in future matches.

“We’ve realized that we’re strong enough to compete with any team, and winning the Patriot League is right at our fingertips. Securing the doubles point gives us that leg-up in singles, and we’ll continue being loud and positive on the court and letting everyone know what the Bison are capable of,” Zelikovsky said.

Bucknell competes next on March 11 in Santa Barbara, California against Westmont.
