Tennis starts back up for the Orange and Blue as a few select Bison competed in Tulsa, Okla. for the coveted ITA All-American Championships. Seniors Adam Stavrakas ’26 and Amar Tahirovic ’26 were selected to compete for the Orange and Blue, with a chance at an NCAA singles bid on the line. They were the only two players selected to represent the Patriot League. Stavrakas competed on Saturday, Sept. 20 in the pre-qualifying round, and Tahirovic began competition on Wednesday, Sept. 24 after getting a bye into the main competition. Tahirovic is currently ranked No. 43 in the ITA national singles rankings, the highest of any Patriot League player.
Stavrakas was a pivotal component to the Bison’s Patriot League title season. Obtaining a 24-match win streak his junior season, he won the 2025 Patriot League Tournament MVP and First Team All-Patriot League honors. Stavrakas traveled down to Oklahoma on Saturday for his fall opener where he started his senior year with a singles match against a Florida Gator, where he dropped the match 6-0, 6-2. He played again later that day in the consolation bracket against a Wake Forest Demon Deacon, where he lost again, 6-4, 6-3.
Tahirovic was also an essential piece to the Bison’s league dominance. The recipient of the Bucknell Athletics’ Bison Club Award that goes to Athlete of the Year, Tahirovic is the current Patriot League Player of the Year. He competed in the ITA Conference Masters last fall, where he was one win short of gaining an NCAA singles bid. Tahirovic will compete Wednesday, Sept. 24 through Saturday, Sept. 27, where he will fight for a chance to earn an NCAA singles bid for the spring.
After the ITA Championships, Men’s Tennis will continue their fall season at the River City Open hosted by Richmond next week, Oct. 3-5.
