Men’s Soccer fought hard on Saturday, Oct. 4, for a victory against Army. This matchup was especially close as both teams were 1-1-1 in Patriot League action heading into the contest. While the match stayed scoreless for a majority of the time, a last-second goal by midfielder Jimmy Pombor ’26 gave the Bison the lead and an eventual win.
After 89 minutes of no goals, the Bison earned a corner kick in the last seconds of the game for a final attempt at a victory. Kasper Piela ’27 sent the ball into the box to David Krumov ’27, who sent the ball wide. Piela picked up the ball again, where Collin Sullivan ’28 went for grabs, sending it to Pombor, who took the shot that gave him his first goal of the season.
His goal also earned him Patriot League Midfielder of the Week honors for the match-winning goal.
Goalkeeper Freddie Lapworth ’26 also had a solid game with two saves: he dove in the 69th minute to prevent a goal from the Black Knights, and later on in the match made a save from a distance.
The Bison had a scheduled match against Binghamton on Tuesday, Oct. 7, but it was declared a “no contest” after bad weather conditions at Emmitt Field. The game will not be continued or rescheduled, and will contribute no statistics to either team’s season.
The Bison will be back in action on Oct. 11 at Holy Cross to continue Patriot League play.
