Men’s Tennis took on Mount Saint Mary’s this past Saturday, Jan. 24, in their first home game of the season. The Orange and Blue brought their record to 1-1 after their loss against Columbia.
Kicking off the match were the three doubles matches. No. 1 Amar Tahirovic ’26 and Brendan McDonald ’26 secured a strong 6-4 victory. This triumph was McDonald’s 83rd doubles win, putting him just four shy of the team record. In a tougher match, Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ’26 and Will Robinson ’27 had to go to a tiebreaker before pulling through with an 8-6 win. However, the No. 2 partners ultimately ended their respective match with a 3-6 loss.
Six singles matches took place following the doubles. Five of the six matches were back-to-back set victories for the Bison. The only game to go to a third set was Robinson, who won 10-5 in the tiebreaker.
The normal No. 2 seed, Adam Stavrakas ’26, was out against Columbia, causing all players to slide up a position. Tahirovic and McDonald earned their second wins of the day with scores of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-2 respectively. Liam Kilmer ’27, Shiv Singh ’28 and Bain Moreno de Vega all collected victories of their own.
The Orange and Blue take on two squads next weekend. The Bison travel first to Binghamton today followed by a match at home against Delaware at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
