Bucknell Women’s Tennis had a two-game weekend starting with a trip to Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday to take on Saint Joseph’s before coming home to face Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday. Both matches resulted in a 4-3 victory for the Orange and Blue. The two wins over the weekend brought their record to 3-0 for the season.
Starting the weekend, the Bison went to Philadelphia to take on the St. Joseph’s Hawks. The match began with the doubles teams taking the court. The first win of the day came from Captain Mirra Manolov ’26 and Jaycie Mair ’27, defeating their opponent 6-1. With a win and a loss from the other doubles partners, the Orange and Blue went into the singles rounds up 1-0.
The singles started with a loss for the Bison to tie up the match. Tori Allen ’27 was able to put the Orange and Blue ahead with a two-set win, going 6-4, 6-4. The match continued in the pattern of the Hawks tying the score and the Bison pulling ahead until it was down to one last match-up. On court five, Manolov was able to secure a victory with a 6-4, 7-5 victory to end the match with a score of 4-3.
Coming off their success on the road, the Orange and Blue brought the match home for the home-opener of the season against Mount St. Mary’s. Cameron King ’28 was pivotal in this match, securing the Bison the win after a tough-fought three-set match.
The Orange and Blue were off to a rough start with the doubles matches, winning just one of the three matches. The Mountaineers took an early lead of 1-0 before the singles matches. The Bison came back fighting, with Allen and Abby Platt ’26 securing strong wins to bring the score to 2-1. The Mountaineers took the lead back, but Riley Jennings ’28 was able to bring it back to a tie with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win. With all eyes on King, the Orange and Blue secured a victory after a hard three sets.
Hoping to remain undefeated, the Bison keep it at home this weekend to take on Mercyhurst on Saturday, Feb. 7., and Temple on Sunday, Feb. 8.
