The Bison Men’s and Women’s tennis teams had a big weekend at home, taking on Mercyhurst, followed by Temple. Both teams were dominant on Saturday, Feb. 7, as the men ended with the 7-0 sweep and the women ended 6-1. The men continued their hot streak with a 5-2 victory against Temple. The women had a tough match, walking away with a 7-0 loss to the Owls.
The men’s team began their weekend by taking on the Lakers on the Bison court. Tyler Bush ’29 saw his first collegiate match alongside William Robinson ’27, who fought to a 6-4 victory. The other two doubles teams followed suit, starting their sweep with three doubles wins. The singles matches took the court with Amar Tahirovic ’26 at the top spot. Tahirovic ended with a score of 6-1, 6-2, starting the scoring. The rest of the matches followed suit, with not a single loss, ending the day 7-0 for the Orange and Blue.
For the other half of the Bison, the day started similarly with a 3-0 result for the doubles match-ups. On court one, Riley Jennings ’28 and Abby Platt ’26 won the first point on the board with a 6-2 win. With the other pairs earning points of their own, the singles matches began. The first three match-ups were three more tallies on the Orange and Blue’s side. The fourth court was played by Jaycie Mair ’27, who secured the victory in a 6-2, 6-1 match. With only one point to the Lakers, the game ended 6-1 for the Bison.
Moving into Saturday, the men’s team had a rough start against the Owls. Losing the top two sets, the Orange and Blue had to push forward going into the singles matches. Sending out the top three of the line-up, Liam Kilmer ’27, Brendan McDonald ’26 and Tahirovic secured three quick points, winning back-to-back sets. Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ’26 was able to secure the win for the Bison with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
For the last match of the weekend, the women’s team had their turn, taking on the Owls. Similar to the other half of the Orange and Blue, the team fell to Temple during the doubles round after quickly securing the second and third court points. The Owls were on a hot streak and didn’t let any singles point, leaving the score for the Bison at 0-7. This loss was the first of their season, bringing the Orange and Blue record to 4-1.
The Bison look ahead to another double-game home weekend. The men’s team will take on Georgetown today, followed by Johns Hopkins on Sunday, Feb. 15. The women’s team prepares for their match against Saint Francis today, as well as Villanova on Saturday, Feb. 14.
