Women’s Tennis faced St Francis (2-5 L) and Villanova (3-4 L) over the weekend, falling short in both matches.
The Orange and Blue are coming off a 1-1 weekend against Mercyhurst and Temple, looking to improve upon their 4-1 record with a doubleheader match against St Francis and Villanova. On the opposing side, the Red Flash enter the matchup with a 3-5 record, coming off a championship-winning season in the NEC last season.
As for the Wildcats, they are looking to expand on their 3-4 season record after back-to-back victories last weekend. In their first matchup against the Red Flash, the Orange and Blue saw a strong opening, winning all three doubles matches to take the point. On court one, Abby Platt ’26 and Riley Jennings ’28 handily defeated their opponents 6-3. Jaycie Mair ’27 and Summer Even-Esh ’29 added to the victory with another win on court two, while Cameron King ’28 and Natalie Devraj ’28 secured the point with a strong win on court three.
The highlight of the singles play belonged to Mirra Manolov ’26, who showcased her resilience in a gritty three-set victory to finish as the sole scorer for the Orange and Blue. Despite their efforts, the Bison fell 5-2 to the Red Flash.
The Wildcats took the advantage in the start of the second matchup, sweeping doubles play to secure the opening point. In singles play, the Bison fought back with a trio of victories to keep the pressure on. Devraj secured a point for the Bison with a gritty three-set win. Manolov added to her successful weekend with a straight-sets win over her opponent.
Platt secured a crucial win at the top flight to level the team score at 3-3. Although they fought hard, the Bison ultimately fell in the final matchup, as the Wildcats took the win, 4-3.
The Bison compete next in Massachusetts against Boston University today.
